Hippie dreadlocks can be thought of as the middle path between neglect dreads and highly groomed ones. When you dread hair, the longer the locs the more hippie they look. Doing a double dose of dread extensions for guys is a way I’ve achieved this look for clients who lack super long hair.

Among the available styles for thinning dreadlocks is this tribal look. A receding hairline might make having locs at the front of your hair out of reach but most people have continual growth at the back of their head. Retain some facial hair and a thin crown doesn’t have to define you. Here’s a link to one of my portfolio pages showing another way to precent locs with a thinning hairline.

With the hipster sensation taking off, long dreads and a full beard is one way to achieve a more rugged look with dreadlocks styles for men.

Different types of dreadlocks for guys can be achieved with colour experimentation and looks such as ombre dreads. This can be done by dying part of the dreadlock a different shade or for those with shorter length, having a coloured dreadlock extension sewn on. The result is modern and edgy but also adds some nice depth to this long length.

These short dreads and full beard combine well. If you’re wanting to optimise the popularity of facial hair this could be the dreadlock hairstyle for you.

Short dreads styles for guys include these mod-locs. While the short dreads and loose style will always be on trend, some guys start with this length and later decide to keep up the growth until they get long dreadlocks. It’s normal to try out dread hairstyles of varying lengths before you find that which suits you.

These faux locs,or synthetic dreads done as blue tips are a shorter length dreadlock extension created to suit my clients desire for a more light weight dreads style, aided by his undercut. Great for those wanting a dreadhawk with a difference!

Thin Dreads or Thick Dreads? Once you’ve decided to get dreadlocks this is one of the major questions to ask yourself. Thin dreadlocks give more volume if your hair is thin, which is why my Jamaican client went with this thickness, suiting most African hair types best. It’s worth knowing they take longer for dreadlock maintenance and join together more frequently. As thicker dreads can be sculpted into different styles more easily and are less prone to breakage, I often recommend a medium thickness for the best of both worlds.

Another variation of dreads extensions for guys are these thin dreadlocks combined with an undercut and beard. It makes for a unique look that is simple yet impressive.

As a dread stylist I usually recommend clients go with a consistent loc thickness. For those of you wanting to shake up your dreadlocks style, a simple technique involves having a mixture of short, medium, and long dreads, with differing thicknesses to create a shaggy and bold look.
